Charles Miller
Charles Miller is a California watercolorist whose luminous, restrained work extends a lineage of West Coast plein air practice. Miller trained first under Jerry Nicholson, the prolific California watercolorist and educator later celebrated in the retrospective volume “Jerry Nicholson: A California Original” for his bold, vivid handling of the medium. Under Nicholson, Miller developed the direct observational discipline and confident brushwork that remain central to his practice. He subsequently studied at the Otis/Parsons School of Design in Los Angeles, refining his command of composition and color theory under a distinguished faculty.
His paintings primarily address California’s coastal, urban, and rural landscapes, continuing the state’s watercolor tradition while reflecting his own disciplined sensibility. Miller’s work is primarily held in private collections and has been publicly exhibited in Los Angeles, Newport Beach and Paso Robles, California.
