Dr. Jill Thayer

Jill Thayer, Ph.D. is an artist, educator, art historian, curator, appraiser, and writer. She received her doctorate in Cultural Studies / Museum Studies from Claremont Graduate University with transdisciplinary study in Global Strategy and Trade at St. Peter’s College, University of Oxford, UK.

Jill brings insight to the contemporary dialogue by exploring the narratives of people and their contributions to the culture. “In Their Own Words: Oral Histories of CGU Art,” her post-doctoral fellowship series of Claremont Graduate University Art alumni, professors, and professors emeritus is included in Archives of American Art at The Smithsonian Institution.

Dr. Thayer is a professor of Art History, Global Visual Culture, Strategic Communications, and Marketing Management for colleges and universities nationally in online and onsite courses. She is a contributing writer for art publications and produced “The Art of Life with Dr. Jill Thayer,” a podcast for Voice of Paso Internet radio. She is a fine art appraiser and Associate Member of Appraisers Association of America specializing in Post-war and Contemporary Art. Her artwork is included in private and corporate collections internationally. 

Prior to her move on the Central Coast, Jill owned a gallery representing regional and international contemporary artists of mixed-media. She also owned a design and marketing firm producing award-winning projects for national and global clientele.


My work is a confluence of experiences past and present, within a transdisciplinary context of theory and practice. As a cultural observer, I am inspired by the aesthetics of nature, the human condition, and evolving media-driven technologies. The quiet reflection of the Central Coast sublime, the interaction of people and visual culture, and the fast-paced innovations of digital media methodologies are a just a few of the constructs that inform my process.
