The Legendary Volcanic Vineyard
Formed 26 million years ago by three volcanoes emerging from an ancient Pacific inland sea, the westside Paso Robles Carmody McKnight Vineyard is nothing short of legendary. Planted in 1986, is limestone-calcareous soil. These soils have been proven over centuries to be essential for producing superior wines. Known in France as “the wonder soil” and “the swelling clay,” calcium montmorillonite is found in very few vineyards worldwide. With no fewer than 67 minerals, it is known as a powerful nutrient and detoxifier.
This extraordinary natural feature has been extensively studied by Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and UC Davis. Their research included 25,000 USDA soil studies found no comparable soil anywhere on Earth. These studies confirmed that our wines are the most mineral-rich in the wine world. Learn More Here.
